Auditions for The Company Theatre's 2026 Production of OUR TOWN

 

The Company Theatre will be holding in-person and online auditions for OUR TOWN by Thornton Wilder, directed by Brodie McPherson.

The Company Theatre, 28 Lawn Street, Rochester, NY

 

Audition Dates:

Wednesday, June 24, 6:30–9:30pm

Friday, June 26, 6:30–9:30pm

Saturday, June 27, 2:00pm–TBD (callbacks)

 

To Audition In-Person: Please email info@thecompanytheatreroc.org for an audition slot. Prepare a 1–2-minute monologue in any style. Please bring a headshot/resume. Actor positions are currently UNPAID.
 

If you cannot make auditions or callbacks, we will be accepting online submissions through Wednesday, June 24 at 11:59pm.
 

To Submit Online: Please prepare any 1–2-minute monologue in any style. Film in landscape, chest up, and slate with your name, what piece you’re reading, and the role/roles you’re interested in. Send video along with headshot/resume to info@thecompanytheatreroc.org.

 

Production Dates:

Rehearsals will begin as early as July 6, 2026

Tech Week will begin August 26, 2026

Synopsis:  In this quintessential American play, audiences are transported to the small town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, at the turn of the century. As its inhabitants navigate life, love, and loss, they invite the audience to share in the beauty of the everyday.

It’s Giving: Americana and the power of nostalgia.

 

Character Breakdown: In our continued commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, The Company Theatre encourages actors of any age, race, gender identity/expression, and ability to audition! Age ranges listed are suggestions only, we encourage anyone to audition for any role!

 

Stage Manager, 30+ – Guiding force through the show, caring, but uncompromising like an acerbic aunt or thesis professor. 

 

Emily Webb, Late Teen/Young Adult – Headstrong and steadfast. Ever-caring, ever-loving.

 

George Gibbs, Late Teen/Young Adult – Loyal and giving to a fault, excitable and bright-eyed, learning to be pragmatic and sensible.

 

Mrs. Webb, 40-60 – Emily’s Mother. Headstrong and steadfast like her daughter. Reserved.

 

Mr. Webb, 40-60 – Emily’s Father. Ever-caring, ever-loving like his daughter. Enthusiastic.

 

Wally Webb, Preteen/Young Teen – Emily’s younger brother, fretful and simple.

 

Mrs. Gibbs, 30-50 – George’s Mother. Loyal and giving to a fault like her son. Unselfish.

 

Dr. Gibbs, 30-50 – George’s Father. Pragmatic and sensible like his son. Stern.

 

Rebecca Gibbs, Preteen/Young Teen – George’s younger sister, wily and curious.

 

Howie Newsome, 30+ – Town milkman, sincere and guileless.

 

Mrs. Soames, 30+ – Town gossip, talkative and inconsolable.

 

Simon Stimson, 30+ – Town organist, town drunk, anguishing and shrewd.

 

Constable Warren, 20+ – Town law enforcement, neighborly towards his kind.

 

Joe Crowell/Si Crowell, Preteen/Teen – Town paperboys, aggrieved by the changes in life.

 

Professor Willard, 40+ – Town historian, bright but uncritical.

 

Sam Craig, 20+ – Town expat, Emily’s cousin.

 

Joe Stoddard, 30+ – Town undertaker.

 

Three Baseball Players, Late Teen/Young Adult – George’s teammates, roguish and insolent.

 

Townspeople – Church Choir Members, Wedding Attendees, Funeral Attendees, The Dead (assigned lines in rehearsal)
